Google Mail For Your Business Emails

I stumbled upon an interview floating on the Internet between Bill Gates and Steven Levy, the author of In The Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives.  This conversation happened shortly after Gmail was launched.

“How could you need more than a gig?” the Microsoft co-founder asked, according to Levy. “What’ve you got in there? Movies? Power-Point presentations?”Gates proceeded to pepper Levy with questions. “How many messages are there?” he asked, Levy recalls. “Seriously, I’m trying to understand whether it’s the number of messages or the size of messages.” Levy writes, “After doing the math in his head, he came to the conclusion that Google was doing something wrong.”

In retrospect, I must admit my train of thought was similar.  At the time, I probably only had a couple hundred megabytes of data in my email and I was a very, very heavy Internet user.  Last year, my Google Mail account reached the 7GB limit and I had to download everything to another Google Mail account, and “reset” my current email account and now I am at 2GB of used space again.  Amazingly, if I ever need to find a fax from 3 years ago, I am able to.  If I need to look at the earlier proposals from last year, I am able to.  If I need to find a report my book keeper sent 2 years ago, I am able to.  The power of keeping emails indefinitely has become a very applicable and useful tool.

Most web hosting companies offer their own email service that you can sync to your Outlook, Android, iPhone, or BlackBerry.  However, often times, you lose your emails when you switch web hosting companies OR you have to back them up and search your hard disk for emails, which is slower and less accessible, especially if you are on the go, than if it was on a platform such as Google Mail.

Shortly after Google launched their series of Google Business Apps, which included Google Mail, we started offering it as a service for our One V8 web hosting clients, and our clients love it!  Keep in mind, this is different from Gmail.com.  Google Mail from their Google Business Apps is a business quality email service that allows you to keep your domain name so you will get yourname@yourdomainname.com as oppose to yourname12345@gmail.com.
